For some people confidence is natural, they have this ability to always come out where they want to. For others, they are plagued by doubt and self-fulfilling prophecies of failure. For both categories of people, confidence is a choice. The earlier in life you choose to believe in yourself the easier it is. It’s like working out, it’s so much easier to be in shape if someone never really gets out of shape. Once someone believes they are athletic it becomes a part of their identity making it way easier to continue working out.
Confidence works the same way because what you believe is possible is inevitable. If you believe you can run a marathon then you are going to do what it takes to finish it. I just read an article the other day of a man who ran 31 marathons in 31 days with no arms or legs. He believed he could do it, and so it happened.
Whatever you believe about yourself is true. But what you believe is a choice.
If you want to be confident then take small steps now to remind yourself of who you want to be. Risk is apart of everyone’s life and it is necessary to have progress in life. Confident people take risks, confident people make mistakes but the only time someone fails is when they let there shortcomings convince them to quit. There is a famous quote in BJJ, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, that says all black belts are just white belts that didn’t give up. That is the same for anything in life.
If you take one thing away from this blog it is that in order for you to find confidence you need to take risk and to not quit when you don’t succeed the first few times. No one can believe in you, for you.
